gamescom latam

Answer to the devs’ open letter

São Paulo, 29 May, 2025 — The organizers of gamescom latam acknowledge receipt of the referenced document. However, it is important to clarify that certain information shared publicly may lead to misinterpretations:

Since the inception of the BIG Festival project, the event’s organizers and associated professionals have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the independent games industry in Brazil. This commitment is reflected in the industry’s exponential growth in recent years – a process in which the event has played an instrumental and sustained role, working tirelessly and consistently to foster international connections, bringing industry professionals to  Brazil and introducing the region to major global players in the gaming market.

The proprietary area Brazil Panorama is another example of these efforts. It reflects a broad and consistent policy of supporting independent developers, especially Brazilians, something not typically seen in other large-scale events, which only makes occasional invitations to some professionals. In 2025, Brazil Panorama, in conjunction with the BIG Festival, showcased 129 games, including 59 Brazilian and 70 from international studios.

Both initiatives are offered free of charge to selected games and include:

– Donation of show floor space at the event,

– Free provision of structure and furniture (in the case of BIG Festival, also computers and TVs),

– Support from event staff,

– Access credentials for the event,

– Access to the business area,

– Financial assistance for participants from outside São Paulo state,

– Among various other forms of support.

Participation is entirely voluntary and subject to prior acceptance of the terms and conditions, which are transparently disclosed and clarified before any commitment is made.

Specifically at Brazil Panorama, there are optional paid services available for those who wish to enhance their participation. This year, however, clearer guidelines were implemented regarding the occupation of demo stations, in order to avoid them being empty as seen in the last edition of the event, aiming to optimize the visitor experience. Again, it is important to emphasize that all such guidelines are communicated in advance, enabling participants to make informed decisions aligned with their resources and availability.

It is also noteworthy that over its 5 days, gamescom latam 2025 generated an economic impact of more than R$20 million for the City of São Paulo, as well as several hundred million reais in business for the participating companies, particularly benefiting the independent developers who took part in the event.

We also deem it necessary to correct a factual inaccuracy regarding public funding. The financial support provided by the City of São Paulo to the event was R$1 million, as previously disclosed. The figure of R$22 million mentioned in the correspondence refers to the total projected production budget for gamescom latam 2025 as of January this year. This amount encompasses expenses related to production, content curation, marketing, venue rental, staffing, accreditation, and other operational activities.

The gamescom latam team is always attentive to feedback from the community and remains open to dialogue with those interested in working towards the development of the gaming industry in Brazil and Latin America—a mission that has always been, and continues to be, our core priority.
